A Few Word of Wellness.

October 20, 2010

Recently, I’ve had a bit of a health scare. So even though I haven’t been around E.B. Lane a lot lately, I come back now with a lesson to share.

Long story short, I was in severe pain for over a week. After many doctor appointments, tests, and unanswered questions, I was actually told by one doctor that I’m a “medical mystery.” As intriguing as this sounds, it is neither a compliment nor a comfort.

During this time, however, I realized that pain can teach us many things. First, the encouragement and prayers of my family and friends during this time far exceeded what I expected. I am truly thankful for those who are in my life, their words of sympathy and care, as well as their ability to remind me that “this too shall pass.” In addition, little things, like taking a walk or running an errand, have started to look more like a blessing than a chore.

Today, I am pain free once again, have a clean bill of health, and am feeling back to normal – whatever that may be. I can’t imagine what it’s like to live with chronic pain or a debilitating disease. My experience gave me only a small glimpse of this. But what I do know is that I am grateful for my health, meaningful relationships, and life lessons that sometimes hit you right in the face!

I’ll leave you with a favorite quote by my friend and author, Mark Bravo:

“Three things in life you can control: your attitude, your integrity, and your compassion for others.”

I hope this dose of healthy perspective makes your today even more valuable.
